Welcome

Welcome

A warm welcome to you. Thank you and perhaps even well done for taking a moment to be here. Investing in yourself is a wonderful and often courageous thing to do but you need to find someone that you can trust enough to be vulnerable with.

My name is Patrick. I am an NCPS accredited (NCS24-04206) counsellor who lives in Mid Devon with my partner and two children. The themes that brought me to therapy both as a client and in later years as wanting to train as a counsellor, are concerned with emancipation, empowerment, building a strong sense of self, courage and autonomy. I also have personal first-hand experience in dealing with themes around adoption.

If you are seeking in person sessions, I offer a safe space in my home for you to bring whatever you feel comfortable with and all that is important to you.

I also offer online appointments for those who cannot travel or simply feel more relaxed in their own home.

I will be present alongside you throughout; mutually and respectfully working together. Yours will be the view point from which we look at your world together.

If you would like to reach out, I'm here for you on the contact details provided. I always offer a free 20 minute video call to open with.

This gives us the opportunity to get to know each other a bit; allowing you to then trust your instincts on making a decision.

How I work (and some thoughts on therapy)

How I Work
I have studied primarily the Person-Centred model of therapy along with some existentialism. I am passionate about the principles that govern Person Centred Therapy. Through personal experience as a one-time client myself, I have found them to be incredibly liberating and enduring. It can sometimes take time and a committed investment to yield therapeutic change but through that process great insight, personal wisdom, peace of mind and confidence can be obtained.

The logo I have on my website is sketched by my partner. It is one of my most favourite images ever; that of a solitary oak tree that stands in the middle of a field surrounded by beautiful countryside. I loved this as an image way before I understood why. The sprawling, lush greenery of the open English countryside always instilled in me a sense of freedom, but I was particularly drawn to the sight of lone trees. Slowly over time the answers began to reveal themselves to me.

No one is an island. For the good and the bad we are all a sum of our caregivers, friends, children, culture and environment, but we must ultimately all stand alone. I’m reminded of the great paradox of life; the oxymoron that we are all 'alone together'. This can feel like a daunting prospect but I have found that the more we understand ourselves and can relate with deeper meaning to the experiences that we have in life, the more connected we feel to ourselves and others. We shape the world around us within and that is why the image of the solitary tree is one that reaches me at a fundamental level. We stand alone but in a symbiotic relationship with all the sustaining beauty that surrounds us through life, in all types of weather.

I see my role as your therapist to be a catalyst for your own thought process. We will mutually work alongside each other always from your frame of reference and always knowing that you are the expert on you. I may offer observations, I may point out themes, patterns and frequently used words but ultimately, I am reflecting back what you are giving me. This broadens awareness and with that we can begin to understand ourselves more deeply. We gain an appreciative, rewarding, nurturing and compassionate understanding for why, what and who we are.

Appointments:

I work with clients on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. These appointments can take place in person at my home, or online whatever your preference is.

Cost:

•Initial 20 minute video call is free.
•All subsequent sessions are charged at £50 and last for 60 minutes.

Cancellations:

Beginning therapy is a commitment to yourself and a personal investment. Our relationship is a therapeutic one but it is also a professional one.

There are of course moments in life that we can’t help but where possible I ask for at least 48 hours notification for a cancellation. Any cancellation received outside of this could result in a charge for the session being missed. My core intention is to be fair and reasonably open to discretion in some, infrequent instances.

I will always priorities our time together however, in the event that I have to cancel and reschedule a session, I too will endeavour to give you as much notice as I can.

Making payments:

Fees are paid to me via BACS with my bank details being provided to you when we schedule in your first appointment. I ask for payment to be made at least 24 hours before the appointment please.
